In a shocking turn of events, the Cachar Police have successfully cracked a sinister plot involving the brutal murder of a taxi driver and the theft of his vehicle. The prime suspect, Arun Das (38 yrs), a notorious criminal from R K Nagar, Karimganj, has been apprehended along with his accomplices following an intensive investigation.

The gruesome incident unfolded on the night of December 9, 2023, when the police received information about a naked and severely injured male lying at Ramnagar bypass. The victim, identified as Mithu Biswas, the driver of the vehicle no. AS-10 D-5123 was hired by an unknown person from Karimganj Taxi stand. Tragically, Mithu Biswas succumbed to his injuries the next day after being rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

According to the official press statement provided by Cachar Police, Arun Das masterminded the entire ploy. He hijacked the vehicle from Karimganj taxi stand under the guise of needing transportation to Silchar. Subsequently, Arun Das administered an intoxicating substance to Mithu Biswas, rendering him unconscious. The victim was then thrown near the National Highway bypass, close to ISBT, Silchar-Aizawl road, in a naked condition. Mithu Biswas, lying on the highway, was later struck by a passing vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries.

The investigation led to the arrest of Arun Das and his co-conspirators, who were identified as Jasimuddin (27 yrs) of Natun Chandpur, Patharkandi, Karimganj; Raju Hussain Barbhuyan aka Riju (21 years) of Kanakpur, Silchar; Pintu Das (33 years) of Kalibari, Ramkrishna Nagar, Karimganj; and Ajim Uddin (31 yrs) of Kaliganj, Karimganj.

The criminal gang, after executing their heinous crime, sold off the stolen vehicle in Aizawl. With the assistance of Mizoram Police, the authorities were able to recover the vehicle from one of the accused, Ajim Uddin, in Aizawl.

Cachar Police registered a case vide Silchar PS C/No 2368/2023 under sections 394/302 IPC, reflecting the gravity of the charges against the arrested individuals.
