NF Railway cancels Silchar – Guwahati and all other trains in Badarpur-Lumding section till July 21 owing to “Operational Challenges”

After a month and half of exhausting hard work in the breach portions of Lumding-Badarpur section, the authorities have finally been able to restore the hill section within its estimated time.

NF Railway CPRO Sabyasachi De while informing this to Barak Bulletin, mentioned that rolling of freight train has already been planned for today. “We are going to run freight train first for 2-3 days and thereafter assessing the situation passenger trains will be allowed.” De said thumping that for Railways, the safety and security of passengers matters the most.

On May 14, rain-induced landslides and flash floods damaged the railway line in Dima Hasao at 61 locations. These cut off Barak Valley, parts of Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for weeks from the mainland.

It can be mentioned here that Silchar to Phiding section has already been restored by the railways and a special train is plying on the section.

“Combating daunting challenges, Railways restored the connectivity in flood ravaged Badarpur-Phiding section of Assam in mission mode to ensure seamless access to the region” said Ministry of Railways in a tweet.

However NF Railways has cancelled all scheduled trains in the Badarpur-Lumding section till 21st July. As per CPRO, the reason is related to operational challenges after the recovery.

If sources are to be believed, many locomotives in Badarpur have gone faulty after they got stranded here since May following the rail disruption.

Among the trains cancelled are Silchar-Guwahati Express, Silchar-Tinsukia Express, Agartala-Bangalore Express, Agartala-Deogarh Express, Agartala-Anand Vihar Express, Guwahati-Badarpur vistadome Express etc.
