NIT in 201-250 category of ‘Times’ global rankings’; “Harbingers of global academic excellence,” reacts Director Sivaji Bandopadhyay
In a 2-day visit to Barak Valley, Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu has visited several educational institutions of Silchar today including the National Institute of Technology, Silchar. The prestigious NIT Silchar has recently had the honour of receiving the 201-250 rank in the globally reputed Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, which is a matter of great pride to the college. Three other NITs too have managed to make it to the 201-250 rank category, in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, they are NIT Rourkela, NIT Tiruchirapalli and VNIT Nagpur. Naturally, students and scholars as well as faculty and administration of the institute are elated about this achievement of their college.
Among Indian Universities, the NIT Silchar is at the 19th position at 201-250 sharing the same rank with 9 Indian Universities namely IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, NIT Rourkela, IISER Bhopal, Delhi University, Delhi Technological University, Jadavpur University, Aligarh Muslim University, and Jamia Hamdard University.
The Director of NIT Silchar, Prof. Sivaji Bandopadhyay, said that they’ve achieved the milestone due to contributions from all faculty members, scholars, students and all staff members. He said, “Our high rank is evident in our strong research outcome, citation profile, and impact by our students and faculty members at NIT Silchar. This is a remarkable achievement for NIT Silchar to have received such a high ranking primarily based on our Engineering programs with respect to other general universities having many general and Engineering programs,” the director shared.
Adding, “We are proud to establish Silchar, Assam, North-east India, and India as proud harbingers of global academic excellence. We have a long road ahead to focus on academia, research, and industry collaboration to uplift NIT Silchar to greater heights of success.”
The Registrar of the NIT Silchar, Dr. Nalin Behari Dev Chaudhury, said, “Our Director Sir has given specific thrust on quality research, innovation, academic excellence, campus placement, and overall upliftment of the institution in such a way that for the last four years, NIT Silchar has kept on improving its rank by every year. This achievement is a result of the collective effort of faculty members, students, research scholars, all staff members and the administration for their motivated work. But the mission was guided by our Director Dr. Sivaji Bandopadhyay.”
He went on to say, “In the last few years, we have bought a lot of equipment which are world-class and thereby helped our students and scholars in doing research work of high quality. Thus with the help of such resources and of course with the skill and dedication of our pupils, the NIT Silchar today has been able to compete with other NITs and IITs across the country and come out with great results.”
In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of 2020, the NIT Silchar was placed at the 46th rank among all the engineering colleges of India, including the private ones as well. Among the NITs only, the Silchar NIT is currently placed at 9th ranking.
