After shining in NIRF followed by Atal Innovation ranking, NIT Silchar has now achieved worldwide ranking after getting listed in the reputed Times Higher Education World University ranking, released on Wednesday. This is for the first time, since the inception of NIT Silchar, it has made itself into an international list.
NIT Silchar has been featured in The Times Higher Education World University rankings with a Global Rank in the Band of 801-1000.
‘THE’ assigns individual ranks to top 200 universities, after which it puts them in cohorts. India has just two universities among the world’s top 400, as per the rankings.
University of Oxford, UK topped the list followed by Stanford University and Harvard University of USA. California Institute of Technology secured 4th position followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 5th position.
“This is just the beginning for NIT Silchar as we have tremendous room in ranking parameters and opportunities to grow. Getting an 801-1000 for the 1st time globally overall in all subjects by such a reputed ranking firm is a major milestone for NIT Silchar, North East India, and across India and the greater South and South-East Asia” NIT director Prof Sivaji Bandhopadhyay said.
More than 1500 universities across 93 countries have been ranked overall in all subjects. The ranking reflects performance in 4 areas namely teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
From an Indian perspective, NIT Silchar has a rank of 19 among 63 universities including IISc, 7 IITs, and 4 NITs. “In North-East India, our ranking is first” the director added.
“I am hopeful of a very optimistic global picture for NIT Silchar with further advances in research since the data submission. Our students, faculty, staff, and alumni should enjoy this glorious feat for a second before we together strive to achieve further global excellence. The sky is the limit for us” the Director said.
