NIT Silchar Suspends Professor Amid Allegations of Molestation
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar has suspended a faculty member from its Department of Electrical Engineering following allegations of molestation by a first-year female student. The decision to suspend Dr D Koteshwara Raju was taken at approximately 3:00 am today after protests erupted among students.
According to sources, Dr Raju allegedly touched the student inappropriately, prompting her to discuss the incident with fellow students. The revelation led to widespread protests within the campus, demanding swift action from the administration.
Institutional sources further confirmed that this is not the first complaint against Dr Raju, indicating he has been involved in similar incidents previously, including one reported in 2021. However, it is believed that several such incidents may have gone unreported.
NIT Silchar’s Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) has initiated a formal investigation into the matter. The ICC is responsible for addressing complaints related to sexual harassment against women employees and students, operating under The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
