No Bandh on Oct 23; Assam government announces offices, businesses must function as usual or else strict action will be taken

42 organisations had called for a 12-hour Assam bandh on October 23, 2018 to mark protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016. A day later, Assam Government has warned people not to participate in the Bandh and at the same time announced that strict actions will be taken against those who bunk offices. Not only schools, colleges, courts, and offices but businesses must function normally too or else trade license would be canceled informed the state government.

Deputy Commissioners and Superintendent of Police of each district will be in charge of monitoring if everything is functioning properly. The government has also authorised the Police to arrest picketers immediately if they demonstrate in support of the strike in public places.
The Sarbananda Sonowal Government assured huge deployment of security forces in order to ensure safety to the people out on work and at the same time, warned the organisation against any sort of vandalism. If any property is damaged by the supporters of the Bandh then the cost of renovation would be recovered from the organisation to which the supporters belong to.
In the morning, the administration informed that it would not allow the Bangali Samabesh (Gathering of 27 Bengali organisations) and in the evening, the government balanced it by issuing a series of guidelines to make the strike ineffective.
