No Covid cases in Barak Valley; Three students had tested positive on AG kit but negative on RTPCR

Covid cases are on the rise in Assam. Yesterday 210 samples tested positive in Assam while the number a day before on July 4 was 161. According to the NHM Assam report, currently there are 810 active Covid cases in the state.

Health Minister of the State, Keshab Mahanta informed that the state is reporting 10.14% positivity rate. Yesterday, 2,070 samples were tested and 210 happened to be positive.

Fear started spreading in Barak Valley that is already troubled by unprecedented floods, after the news of three positive cases broke on social media. Three PG first year students had reported mild cough and fever. They were tested using the rapid antigen test kit and their samples turned out to be positive. “However, when the samples were tested using RT-PCR, all three turned out to be negative. So, as it stands, there is no COVID cases in Silchar Medical College and Hospital,” informed Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal, SMCH.

All three students have been kept in isolation. The report shared by NHM Assam and Health Minister of the state, also mentioned that there are no COVID cases in either of the three districts of Barak Valley.

Dr. Gupta added, “The hospital has successfully treated thousands and is well equipped to deal with fresh cases. I urge the people of the district, there is nothing to panic, if you are throwing symptoms get tested and if you test positive, visit SMCH, there are doctors available to treat in facilities that are well equipped.”

He reiterated that timely treatment can save lives an so, the attendant must not take chances and seek medical help immediately.
