No point visiting NRC seva kendra on August 7; reason of exclusion to be out on Friday

It was earlier announced that the applicants, who did not find a place in the National Register of Citizens’ final draft, will get to know the reason of their exclusion on August 7. But now, the authorities have announced that due to some unavoidable circumstances, the details will be now available on August 10.

The home ministry, as well as the NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela mentioned in several occasions that each and every citizen, whose name is missing from the final draft will get an opportunity to stake claim by providing necessary documents. The Supreme Court of India has also asked the government to give fair opportunity to all the rejected applicants and to hear them out.

Not only staking claim, people who have an objection about someone else’s inclusion can also reach out the authorities. The claim and objection process will start from August 30 and will continue till September 28, 2018. During the same period one can also request for a correction if needed. Correction such as spelling of the name, address photograph extra will be entertained by the NSK.

The NRC was released on Monday, July 30. Out of 3.29 crore people, some 40 lakh have been excluded. The government has clarified that the list is a draft and no one would face action if they were not on it. People would have a chance to furnish documents to prove their citizenship of Assam.
