No space for last rites; dead body found floating in flood water in Silchar
In a horrifying development in Silchar, a dead body was found floating in flood water in the National Highway area. It can be presumed that the kin of the deceased packed the dead body and let it in flood water as there is no place to carry out the last rites.
Reportedly the dead body has been floating across the area since yesterday and the rescue team couldn’t reach there as they have been busy in operations across other areas of the town.
The entire town is under water and the cemetery is also inundated. Owing to the conditions there, apparently the relatives of the deceased took this decision. This has resulted in a lot of fury from the residents of the town.
Just yesterday, Dr. Lakhan Das opened up Kalyani hospital’s cremation facility for the public since people are running here and there with mortal remains of their near and dear ones. Some are even handing over the dead-bodies the force and personnel deployed for relief and rescue.
Silchar is witnessing unprecedented floods and as per the flood report till date, a total of 45,34,048 population of 4536 villages in 30 districts have been affected by flood in the state in the last 24 hours.
