North East Express derails near Raghunathpur Station in Bihar’s Buxar district; Several injured, One dead

In a tragic incident, the 12506 North East Express, en route from Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi to Kamakhya Junction in Assam’s Guwahati, met with a derailment near Raghunathpur railway station located in Bihar’s Buxar district. The incident occurred at 9:35 pm, resulting in the derailment of atleast six coaches and injuries to several passengers as well as one casualty.

Expressing his concern regarding the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his socials and wrote, “I have received the news of the derailment of North East Express 12506 – from Anand Vihar to Kamakhya. We are closely monitoring the situation and are establishing contact with local authorities and other agencies.”

As per news agency PTI, Buxar SP Manish Kumar stated, “All people have been rescued. Around 25-30 are injured and have been sent to hospital and one has died. We are unable to search one coach and effort is underway to search that coach.”

Taking cognisance of the incident, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, has decided to return from Naugachhia, Bihar, to visit the accident site. It maybe mentioned that Buxar happens to be the parliamentary constituency of the Minister.

The CPRO of Northern Railways, in an official statement, stated, “Some coaches of train number 12506 North East Express going from Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya derailed at 21.35 today near Raghunathpur station of Danapur division”
