“Not submitting self-assessment form will invite legal actions,” warns Dipayan Chakraborty; MLA working to maintain tax parity says MP Rajdeep Roy
Opposition to the Government’s policies can attract legal actions against them, is what Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty said today while addressing the media. Today, at the inauguration of the Central Health Scheme Silchar Wellness Centre, the MLA made this remark against any opposition to the increased property tax slabs in the municipal areas.
This remark has come after Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev voiced her opinion against the increasing municipal taxes by the state and cautioned of a mass movement if the taxes are not reduced. Cachar MP Rajdeep Roy was also present there who, on the other hand, expressed his concern about the increased taxes.
The wellness centre at Silchar under the Central Government Health Scheme was inaugurated today at the Mini Secretariat premise. After the inauguration session, Cachar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy and Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty addressed the media.
When the question of increased municipal taxes was asked, MLA Chakraborty said, “I want to make it clear that, everyone should submit the self-assessment form and those who are lobbying against this are getting involved in unlawful activities. This will invite legal actions against them and they should think about this”.
He further said, “People must get rid of cheap politics. Today many parties have become microscopic and they are trying to shift the issue and win some votes with lies and by confusing people. But rest assured, BJP is the only option today and the country’s citizens can’t think of anything else”.
MP Rajdeep Roy on the other hand expressed his concerns about the increase in taxes and said, “The exact rise in taxes is not known but those who are involved in self-assessment, will prepare the slab. My house tax and yours won’t be the same as it differs from area to area. But we too are concerned about the proposed increase in taxes and hence we have requested the government to revise the taxes. Silchar is going to become a corporation soon and to manage the difference in taxes between Municipal Board and Corporation, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty has written to the Chief Minister and has also discussed the same in person with the minister of the concerned department. Our party is also involved in this and we are hopeful that we might be able to give a relief to the people here about taxes”.
On September 2, the Trinamool MP Sushmita Dev questioned the tax hike as there is no elected Municipality body. In the press conference called by the AITMC leader, she went on to say, “Public service is not in the DNA of Silchar MP and MLA”. Dev had also urged the taxpayers to not fill up the self-assessment form and also warned the administration of a mass movement by the Trinamool Congress if the raise in taxes is not abolished soon. She also blames the government offices and educational institutions of not paying their property taxes and also declared that if they don’t clear their taxes by September 10, then their offices will be gheraoed and picketed by the AITMC cadres in Cachar.
