Obscene Facebook post against PM Modi: Cachar police detains Silchar’s Manna Barbhuiya
On Friday, Manna Barbhuiya, a resident of the Meherpur area in Silchar town was detained by the Cachar Police for an objectionable post he uploaded on his Facebook profile related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The post was abusive, vulgar and obscene in nature and that evoked a mass social media outrage.
Several organisations called for action and many went on to lodge FIR. Taking prompt action, Cachar Police sent officials at Barbhuiya’s residence in Meherpur and detained him.
IC Rangirkhari confirmed that the Police officials have detained him and will take further actions.
Manna Barbhuiya deleted the post from his Facebook wall and issued an apology, stating, “My Earlier post regarding Prime Minister wasn’t meant to hurt anybody although I apologise. Hopefully, in future I will be more careful about my content.” However, it was too late, the damage was already done.
This is not the first time the administration penalised someone for posting objectionable posts on Facebook. Couple of days back, Senior Assistant, Land Acquisition, DC Office Rajat Bhattacharjee got placed for suspension because of his Facebook post.
The administration has made it clear that netizens must think before posting anything on social media platforms. The administration alerted everyone by alarming that there are surveillance teams monitoring social media activities.
