Padmanabh Baruah transferred, Partha Protim Das becomes Karimganj’s new SP

The government of Assam’s Home (A) Department has issued a notice notifying the Orders passed by the state’s governor. The order notifies the rejig in various roles within the Assam Police.

As it turns out, the Superintendent of Police, Padmanabh Baruah has been transferred from the post of SP and he will be replaced by the current additional SP of the district, IPS Partha Protim Das.

In the interest of public service, Shri Padmanabh Baruah, IPS (RR-2016), Superintendent of Police, Karimganj is transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Police Commissionerate, Guwahati with effect from the date of taking over charge vice Shri Debasish Borah, APS transferred,” states the order signed by Joint Secretary of the department.

It adds, “In the interest of public service Shri Partha Protim Das, IPS (RR-2018), Addl. Superintendent of Police (HQ), Karimganj is allowed to hold the charge post in the rank of SP/Comdt./DCP/AIGP and is transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Karimganj with effect from the date of taking over charge vice Shri Padmanabh Baruah, IPS transferred.”

It is worth mentioning here that Baruah joined as SP in June 2021 and had taken charge from Mayank Kumar. On the other hand, Partha Protim Das has a deep understanding of Barak Valley as he was initially posted as SDPO of Lakhipur in Cachar. Then he had a stint in Upper Assam carrying out many armed operations against militants. Last year, Das was posted as the Additional SP HQ of Karimganj.

Baruah and Das together have set new benchmarks of Policing, especially, when it comes to countering the illegal transportation of banned substances. Chief Minister of the State, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the efforts of the Police formation under Baruah and often called it out as “Leading by example”.
