Panchayat Election Dates: Barak Valley to Vote on 2 May, Counting on 11 May

The long-awaited Panchayat Election 2025 will be held in two phases in Assam. The first phase is scheduled for 2 May, while the second phase will take place on 7 May. Cachar, Sribhumi, and Hailakandi, will vote in the first phase. The administration has issued strict directives to ensure a smooth election process.

As per the official directive released today, all Heads of Offices in Cachar district have been instructed to keep their offices open even on holidays until the election process is completed. This measure aims to maintain an uninterrupted workflow and ensure the timely handling of election-related communications.

Additionally, all officers and staff members in Cachar district have been directed not to leave their headquarters without prior permission from the District Commissioner. This restriction will remain in place until the entire election process is completed.

According to the official notice by the Assam State Election Commission, the last date for filing nominations is 11 April (from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm). The scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on 12 April from 10:30 am, and the list of validly nominated candidates will be published on the same day. The last date for withdrawing candidature is 17 April until 3:00 pm, while the final list of contesting candidates will be released after 3:00 pm on the same day.

Along with Barak Valley, the first phase of elections on 2 May will include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, and Biswanath. The second phase on 7 May will cover Dhubri, South Salmara Mankachar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Bajali, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, and Darrang.
