Perps Demand ₹15 Lakh from School; Cachar Police Arrests 2
A bizarre incident has unfolded in the Lakhipur area, specifically at the Digahali Grant L.P. School under Jaypur Police Station. Two individuals, identified as Sahid Ahmad Choudhury and Rupsang Hmar, have allegedly demanded a sum of money from the teachers of this primary school via a letter.
The incident occurred on February 15, 2024, and came to light when the school’s headmaster, Santosh Acharjee, discovered the letter inside the school premises. Upon opening the letter, he was astonished to find a demand for Rs 15 lakh from the teachers. The letter claimed affiliation with the ADFDS.
The headmaster promptly reported the incident to his superiors, and the Police Superintendent was duly informed. Subsequently, the Station Inspector (SI) contacted the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaypur Police Station, Subodh Gogoi, ordering an investigation into the matter.
Following the investigation, both perpetrators were apprehended by the police on Wednesday. They were placed under custody and subjected to questioning before being formally arrested.
On Thursday, both suspects appeared before the court, where it was decided that they would remain in the remand of Jaypur Police for further interrogation for five days.
At present, the motive behind the suspects’ demand for such a large sum of money from a primary school remains unclear. Investigations are ongoing, and it is hoped that the mystery surrounding the case will soon be unravelled.
