Rangirkhari police outpost in-charge Pranab Kumar Deka said Sipon Uddin Laskar, the main culprit who looted money at Valley Hospital on Thursday, was arrested on Saturday. Arrested Sipon Uddin Hospital is a warden of the hospital. His house is in the third block of Uttar Krishnapur. Based on his confession, 1 lakh 32 thousand 600 rupees were recovered from the box chamber of the hospital lift.
The rest of the money of the looted 2.33 lakh will be recovered soon, said Pranab Kumar Deka. He said that the police became suspicious of Sipon when they went to the hospital on the day of the incident and started investigating. On the day of the robbery, he went to the office on the fourth floor to deposit Rs. 2,33,000 from the counter on the ground floor of the hospital. He collected the money from the counter and then took the elevator. Sipon told police that after getting out of the elevator, a man out of nowhere suddenly kicked him, sprayed some powdery substance all over his face, snatched Rs 2,33,000 from him, and then fled. Sipon was reportedly admitted to the hospital after the incident.
After that, the police started an investigation and all the CCTV video footage of the hospital was examined. After examining the footage, the police found evidence of a young man with cloth on his face masking him going from the ground floor to the fourth floor. But the place where the money was snatched was outside the CCTV’s range. It was then only that the police became suspicious of Sipon. The Police also got information that while fleeing, the robber got help from a bike rider too to flee the scene. Based on this information, the police called up Sipon Uddin from the hospital to the police outpost for questioning on Saturday morning.
There he was interrogated regarding the robbery incident. After applying much pressure, Sipon eventually confessed all the incidents and prior plans to the police. He told the police that in order to grab up the hospital money, the entire drama of robbery was staged. And it was done purely out of greed for money, he said. On the day of the incident, when Sipon went to the fourth floor with the money and got out of the elevator, he sent the elevator-man down to eliminate the chances of any evidence. He then waited for the snatcher at a place next to the elevator. According to the previous plan, the hijacker kicked Sipon, threw some drugs on his mouth, and took away the money. As a part of the plan, when the money was snatched, he gave a fake cry for help.
He also told the police that at that time, Sipon kept 1 lakh 32 thousand 600 rupees and gave the rest of the money to the snatcher. Based on his confession, police were able to recover all the money hidden in the box chamber of the elevator today. The police official further said that a few more employees of the hospital are likely to be involved in the incident. They will also be brought under investigation. According to Pranab Kumar Deka, the Police will also arrest the snatcher and the bike rider soon. Some from the hospital authority are claiming that the snatcher is one of their former security guards who left the job a long back. But his name has not been revealed yet.
