Prime Minister Narendra Modi Unveils Major Infrastructure Projects in North-Eastern Region
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and dedicated multiple developmental projects in the rail and road sectors worth over Rs. 4500 crores from Siliguri, West Bengal. The projects encompass a wide range of initiatives aimed at bolstering connectivity and fostering economic growth in the region.
Among the key railway projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister are electrification projects covering 438.77 km of rail lines, benefiting the people of North Bengal and nearby areas. These include vital sections such as Eklakhi – Balurghat, Barsoi – Radhikapur, Raninagar Jalpaiguri – Haldibari, Siliguri – Aluabari, and Siliguri – Sivok – Alipurduar Jn. – Samuktala. Additionally, significant railway infrastructure enhancements, such as doubling of railway lines in the Manigram – Nimtita section and implementation of automatic block signaling in Ambari Falakata – Aluabari, were inaugurated to improve efficiency and facilitate smoother operations.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister flagged off a new passenger train service between Siliguri and Radhikapur, marking a significant step towards enhancing connectivity in the region. In Assam, Prime Minister Modi dedicated two railway doubling projects spanning 70.59 km of rail lines from Jorhat, completed at a cost of Rs. 1328 crores. These initiatives are expected to alleviate congestion and stimulate socio-economic growth through enhanced freight movement.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the strategic importance of the Northern part of West Bengal as a gateway to the Northeast and stressed the need for modernized rail and road infrastructure. He underscored the completion of crucial electrification projects and emphasized their impact on enhancing connectivity and reducing pollution.
In addition to railway projects, the Prime Minister inaugurated two National Highway projects in North Bengal and laid the foundation stone for several developmental and infrastructural projects across Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh.
The unveiling of these projects signifies the government’s commitment to fostering regional development and bolstering connectivity in the North-Eastern region. Prime Minister Modi reiterated the government’s dedication to accelerating development efforts and enhancing connectivity through substantial investments and the introduction of high-speed train services.
