Principal Bezbaruah breaks silence on Sushmita Dev issue; “Calls for an explanation.”
The principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Babul Bezbaruah has broken his silence after the fiasco that took place yesterday. All India Mahila Congress President and former Silchar MP Sushmita Dev tested COVID positive last evening. Many conspiracy theories got peddled moments after the news broke and most of them centred around the Principal and chief-superintendent of SMCH.
Dr Babul Bezbaruah took charge of SMCH when the institution was heavily hit by corruption in all front. Over the last year, Bezbaruah has established himself as a strong and dependable pillar. If sources in Dispur are to be believed then Bezbaruah is one of the most trusted men among all in command of Medical Colleges across the state. The Minister himself, have mentioned Bezbaruah in many high profile meetings. When a man of his credibility becomes the epicenter of a conspiracy, the tremors are ought to be strong.
Before the former MP reached hospital it became public that the Principal had informed her saying, “Congratulations, your reports have tested negative.” However, moments later, she got another call from the HOD of the microbiology department stating that there was a little confusion and her reports have tested positive.
“Yes, I did tell Sushmita Dev madam that she has tested negative,” said Bezbaruah while speaking with Barak Bulletin. He added, “Madam asked me about her report and that is why I asked a faculty about the same. The faculty member informed me that the Sushmita Dev tested negative and that is why I informed the same to the former MP,” said Bezbaruah.
He added that in the case of COVID cases, the authority crosschecks in multiple levels before making information public. “So a few moments later, I got a call from the HOD madam and she told me that the former MP has tested positive and the earlier case I was informed about was of Sushmita Das and not the MP Sushmita Dev,” informed Babul Bezbaruah.
When reached out to the former MP, Dev told Barak Bulletin, “Yes, it is true that there was some confusions but I don’t want to blame anyone for this.”
Taking cognizance of the the entire fiasco, Bezbaruah has decided to take action. He asserted, “I have called for a formal explanation as to how the faculty gave me wrong information and it is an internal matter so we will handle as per protocol.”
Not only Sushmita Dev there are other high profile patients admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital’s COVID block at this moment. Gynecologist, Dr. Monika Deb industrialist Rudra Narayan Gupta to name a few. Bezbaruah said that the hospital administration has made all possible arrangements for them using the limited resources at disposal.
The former MP has also acknowledged the services provided at hospital. She posted on Social Media, “I have no symptoms till now & am well looked after by the doctors of Silchar Medical College. I thank everyone for for their support,” she wrote.
