Protestors block Kalain road with dead body after Parimal Suklabaidya’s convoy car kills bike rider, Blockade later withdrawn after assurance from local MLA

Yesterday, a Bolero escort car belonging to Parimal Suklabaidya’s convoy took away the life of a bike rider named Safiul Islam at Kalain’s Dhumkur. The speeding car hit Safiul’s bike resulting in his death at the spot. He had went out to buy Iftar items from Kalain market. However, tragedy struck him as he got killed by a car heading to Guwahati belonging to Minister Parimal Suklabaidya’s convoy.

Meanwhile, more than 12 hours have passed after the heart wrenching incident but Minister Parimal Suklabaidya didn’t enquire about the deceased youth’s family which has enraged the people of Kalain and Bihara. The public became furious as the deceased’s body was brought to his home after post mortem examination. They blocked the Silchar-Kalain road with his dead body and registered their protest against Minister Parimal Suklabaidya. “Parimal Suklabaidya Murdabad” slogans echoed the air. Hundreds of vehicles from both sides of the road got stuck due to the blockade.

As per the allegation of the protestors, Parimal Suklabaidya didn’t contact or try to communicate with deceased Safiul Islam’s family despite being informed of the news that one of his convoy cars hit the bike and killed Safiul.

Speaking to reporters one of the protestors said, “Yesterday a car belonging to Parimal Suklabaidya’s convoy hit Safiul Islam’s bike and killed him. They had 3-4 vehicles with them and if they took him immediately to Kalain hospital maybe his life would have been saved. The minister could have called the deceased’s family and expressed his sympathy and condolences but till now he hasn’t made a single call.”

He added, “We want proper justice for the victim’s family. They can go to everyone’s house during elections but have no time to call Islam’s family who became a victim of the Minister’s convoy vehicle.”

The blockade was later withdrawn on the initiative of local MLA and Additional Superintendent of Police. After getting assurance of their demands being fulfilled, the public withdrew the road block. A few hours after the road block, Katigorah MLA Khalilur Rahman Majumdar and Additional SP Subrata Sen arrived at the spot and tried to pacify the public. After a round of discussions with the protestors for a few hours, the blockade was finally withdrawn as the administration assured them of fulfilling their demands.
