Public Nabs Drug Peddlers In Dholai: Heroin Seized, Two Mizo Youths Arrested
Even in between torrential rain, disconnected roads and precarious situations, the illegal drug trade doesn’t seem to be affected.
In a remarkable show of public vigilance, two suspected drug peddlers were caught red-handed by locals in Dholai and later handed over to the police. Acting promptly, the Dholai Police on Monday (June 2) arrested the duo and seized a substantial quantity of heroin from their possession.
The incident took place on Monday evening near the Khaspur Shiva Temple along the Bhaga-Sherkhan road in South Dholai. Locals noticed suspicious movements of two youths and, suspecting them to be involved in drug smuggling, restrained them and informed the police.
Responding swiftly, Sub-Inspector Dharmeswar Deka, Assistant Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar Das, and Shyamali Gogoi, in-charge of the Lailapur Police Patrol Post, reached the spot. Inspector Robin Timung of Sonai Circle also joined the team at the scene.
Upon searching the suspects, the police recovered heroin packed in 25 small containers, weighing a total of 11.63 grams.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 25-year-old Rothas Kima and 32-year-old James Lulrinmawia, both residents of Saipai village under Vairengte Police Station in Kolasib district of Mizoram. During initial questioning, the accused admitted to having purchased the narcotics from a trader in Bhagabazar.
A case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and an investigation is underway.
