Rajdeep Roy to meet NF Railway GM Sanjive Roy tomorrow; Agenda- Barak Valley infrastructure

General Manager of North East Frontier Railway, Sanjive Roy to visit Silchar tomorrow. He has planned the trip responding to Silchar MP, Rajdeep Roy’s invitation. After the recently concluded general election, GM Roy met all the MPs of the region and discussed various issues related to Railways. Due to some unavoidable reasons, Rajdeep Roy could not attend the meeting and hence he had sent a representative.

“Several issues were discussed in that meeting and plans were drawn. I just wanted to meet the GM myself and discuss the issues that are bothering Barak Valley and so requested him for time,” says Rajdeep Roy.

Tomorrow evening, when the member of parliament meets general manager Sanjive Roy he is scheduled to table several “local issues” for discussion. Rajdeep Roy said he will also talk about improving the railway infrastructure in Barak Valley which will help the connectivity.

The NF Railway has recently come under criticism for announcing the promotion of Arpita Das who was found guilty of corruption by the anti-fraud committee. Not only Das’ appointment, locals, in large numbers complained about corruption in Tatkal reservation.

Apart from the inconsistencies in daily operations, the NF Railway is accused of partiality. Recently, at a meeting, it was decided by the department to start DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) services. DEMU train is a multiple-unit train powered by the onboard diesel engines. The DEMU train does not require a separate engine as the engines are incorporated into one of the carriages. As the DEMU train can operate in both directions it also does not require any reversal at the terminal stations. DEMU trains are also very highly advantageous for local connectivity.

Though DEMU is now functioning in Tripura, Barak Valley is still waiting. When we asked, BJP leader from Karimganj and also a member of the Railway Passengers Amenities Committee, Amaresh Roy about the delay, he replied, “Lobbying”. Roy said there are people who are diverting DEMU to other sections due to “vested interests” and regional benefits.
If sources are to be believed then Rajdeep Roy is set to discuss all these issues with the general manager, Sanjive Roy along with many others.
