Ramnagar: Truck-Electric Auto Collision Kills Mother-Son on Spot, Four Injured Rushed to SMCH

A tragic road accident occurred on the Ramnagar ISBT road in Silchar on Thursday afternoon, claiming the lives of a mother and her young son. The fatal accident happened when a sand-laden dumper truck allegedly collided head-on with an electric auto-rickshaw near the ISBT area. Four others, including the auto driver, sustained critical injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Afsana Begum and her 7-year-old son, Tamim Ahmed. According to reports, a family of five from Srikona Daily Bazaar was returning home from a relative’s place when their auto-rickshaw was hit by the dumper truck. The impact was so severe that the mother and son died on the spot.

Three other family members—Neharul Hoque, his 7-year-old son, Samim Ahmed, and his 14-year-old daughter, Tajmina Akhtar—sustained serious injuries. The auto driver, Rakhal Das, was also critically injured.

“Two people died on the spot, and the other three passengers, along with the driver, are in critical condition. We don’t know if they will survive. What is saddening is that no government ambulance arrived at the scene. It was the locals who arranged a private ambulance to take them to the medical college. The auto collided with the truck, and a child died on the spot, which is heartbreaking,” said a local eyewitness.

Following the accident, police arrived at the scene and shifted the injured and deceased to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Meanwhile, the dumper truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. A search operation has been launched to apprehend the absconding driver.
