Record number of positive cases in Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj; One dead at SMCH

Cachar District has reported the largest single day spike on Monday as 369 individuals have tested positive breaking all previous one-day record. Out of them, 154 have tested positive on RT-PCR and 215 on RAT.

District media expert, Suman Choudhury informed that testing has been intensified in Tarapur, Kalain and other areas that were reporting high number of positive cases. He also added that, there is enough Viral Transmission Media (VTM) kits, RAT kits available at the disposal of district health department. 3442 samples were tested using the Rapid Antigen Test kit and out of them, 215 samples tested positive reporting a positivity rate of 6.24%. However, the non-airport RT-PCR tests are throwing high positivity rate, almost four times that of RAT.

Currently, there are 953 active cases in the district. Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that there are 201 patients in the COVID ward of the hospital. 165 of them are in COVID ward while 36 are in the COVID ICU. 15 patients are in ventilator while, 42 are on Oxygen support. Amidst the worry, the only relieving news is that more patients got discharged from the hospital than admitted. On Monday, 20 patients got discharged while 11 took admission.

National Highway resident, 82-year-old Mriganko Mohan Das died with Covid at SMCH. He was admitted to the Hospital on May 8, and declared dead on May 9 at around 11 pm.

Karimganj registered highest spike of 153 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,314.

Of the 153 active cases detected on Monday, 139 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 14 under RT-PCR. Seven persons have succumbed to COVID-19 in the second wave of the pandemic.

The district has altogether 684 active COVID-19 cases while 26 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Monday. 1,379 swab samples were collected on Monday. The district’s positive rate is high at around 11%.

Hailakandi district too reported the highest number of cases in one day. 96 individuals have tested positive on Monday.
