Renowned cardiologist Dr. Rakesh Gopal likely to join Silchar Medical College and Hospital

The wait might just be over. As much as air, Silchar needs a senior cardiologist and if sources in the Silchar Medical College and Hospital are to be believed then the valley is about to get a renowned cardiologist. Adjunct Professor of Cardiology, The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Dr. Rakesh Gopal is likely to join Silchar Medical College and Hospital soon.

He is now a Senior Consultant, Interventional Cardiologist Apollo Hospitals, Chennai also the Director Cardiac Catheterization Services and Interventional Cardiology at Hindu Mission Hospital. He is the Lead Cardiologist, Center for OncoCardiology Apollo Speciality Hospital Teynampet, Chennai and was the former Cardiologist to Governor Tamil Nadu State, India.

The principal of SMCH, Dr. Babul Bezbaruah confirmed that the SMCH is in touch with Dr. Rakesh Gopal. Another senior official in the administration said, “He is willing to join Silchar Medical College and Hospital but the ball is now in the government’s court. If the State Government approves then he is likely to treat patient in SMCH very soon.”

Dr. Rakesh Gopal expertises are, Right and Left Heart Catheterization, Exercise Testing, Echo Cardiography – Trans Thoracic, Trans Esophageal, Contrast Echo, Stress Echo Cardiography and Myocardial Strain Rate Imaging, Cardiac CT and CT Coronary Angiography.

He is proficiently skilled in:

  • All Complex Coronary Interventions, including Rotablation, Bifurcation Angioplasty, Chronic Total Occlusions, Left Main Stenting, Cutting Balloon, IABP assisted procedures, Distal Protection Devices, Graft Interventions and Primary PCI.
  • Peripheral Angioplasty, Renal Angioplasty, Carotid Interventions. Expertise in limb salvage procedures and below popliteal disease angioplasty.
  • Interventions for Valvular Heart Disease, Mitral, Aortic, Pulmonary Balloon Valvotomies, Initiation for Trans Aortic Valve replacement

It is worth mentioning here that on October 28, 2019, it was reported that neurosurgeon, Dr. Manas Bora is likely to shift from Max Hospital in Delhi to join as a cardiologist in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. However, Manas Bora backed out at the last moment and the search continued. Though this time the Principal and the administration are more optimistic it is just speculation till he actually joins.
