Renowned educationist of Barak Valley Dr. Tapas Shankar Dutta passes away

In a tragic news, Renowned Educationist, Former Principal of Gurucharan College and First Controller of Examinations of Assam University Dr. Tapas Shankar Dutta passed away today due to old age. He breathed his last at his home in Silchar Premtala at 3:30 pm. He was 84 years old and is survived by his wife Sumitra Dutta who is another educationist and two daughters, relatives and many well-wishers.

Although Dr. Dutta had immense knowledge in various subjects but he loved being close to the roots. Though he could lead a comfortable private life, he was always concerned with the problems of the city.

He played an important role in the formation of Nagorik Sarthorokkha Parishad. He served as President of the organisation for a long time. He was involved with various other organisations including Vivekananda Kendra. He was also the President of Samakal, a cultural organisation.
