Road mishap in Karimganj village; 1 dead, 2 injured
A 21-year-old youth died and two others suffered critical injuries in a road mishap at Akaidum village under the jurisdiction of Bazaricherra police station in Karimganj district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Bibek Kurmi, who was a resident of Panisagar in North Tripura district of Tripura. The injured persons are Anit Singh (25) and Anupama Singh (21), residents of Tripura.
According to sources, the accident took place around 1pm this afternoon when the trio were on their way to Karimganj from Tripura on a motor-cycle (bearing registration number TR-05 B-5147). When they reached near Akaidum High School, around 95km from Silchar, a dumper-truck (bearing registration number TR-05 C-1560) collided with the bike from the front. As a result, the three persons on the bike were gravely injured, sources said.
Police officials from Sonakhira check-gate rushed to the spot after receiving the information followed by more officials from Bazaricherra police station. The injured persons, meanwhile, were being taken to a local hospital. Bibek, who was driving the bike and bleeding profusely, succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital. The other two persons were later sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
The bike and the dumper-truck were taken into custody by the police. The dumper-truck driver Bidyut Nath (35) fled the spot immediately after the mishap and was absconding, as per last available reports.
