Robbery strikes in Karimganj’s Fathepur: Senior citizen farmer’s 1.25 lakh and ornaments looted

A daring overnight heist happened last night in Fatehpur village in the Kaliganj area of Karimganj. The nefarious act unfolded at the residence of a senior citizen, who found himself alone at home, his son having departed for Shillong for urgent medical treatment. Exploiting the vulnerable situation, a gang of 4-5 dacoits descended upon the household, brazenly forcing entry into the premises.

This incident happened last night at around 2 AM at the targeted residence of Dilip Acharjee, situated in Ward Number 3 of Fatehpur Village under the South Karimganj Assembly Constituency. Under the cloak of darkness, the perpetrators stealthily infiltrated Acharjee’s home while he was asleep. In a swift and ruthless assault, the dacoits subdued Acharjee, mercilessly compressing his chest, rendering him helpless. Before Acharjee could muster a response or discern the unfolding chaos, one of them callously blindfolded him, plunging him into darkness and disorientation.

Seizing the opportunity, they ransacked the premises, making off with a substantial sum of cash totalling one lakh twenty-five thousand rupees, alongside precious gold jewellery. The senior citizen said, “I saved the money by selling the paddy cultivated last season. I can’t say for sure how many people were there, they entered from the backdoor after they jimmy the lock. It was around 2AM. First, they pushed me flat on the bed, hurt my chest and stifled me so rendering me unable to cry for help. After blindfolding me, I was partially senseless with nervousness. I could feel they had hit me in the head or maybe slapped”.

The elderly farmer’s life-saving was wiped out within 15 minutes and the dacoits left the residence leaving the poor man with his eyes and hands tied. Later when locals saw the door open very early in the morning, one of them came and found him in this condition. Later, when Karimganj Police was informed, the audacious nature of the crime prompted swift action. Police mobilized to the scene, accompanied by sniffer dogs, initiating a thorough investigation into the unsettling incident. Preliminary assessments suggest the involvement of a local syndicate, indicative of a pre-meditated act orchestrated by seasoned miscreants.
