Sarbananda Sonowal to inaugurate new bridge at Sadarghat tomorrow

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate a new bridge over the river Barak at Sadarghat in Silchar on Saturday.

The bridge, a part of the Silchar-Kumbhirgram road, is one of the long-pending demands of the citizens of Silchar. The existing bridge has been in an abysmal condition over the past many years and it is expected that the new bridge will help in resolving traffic congestion, which is a regular affair at Rongpur and Sadarghat areas.

Sonowal is scheduled to land at Kumbhirgram airport around 11am on Saturday morning. From there, he will reach Silchar around 11:35am and inaugurate the new bridge. Thereafter, he will reach Circuit House for lunch.

Around 12:50pm, Sonowal will arrive at Police Parade Ground in Silchar where he will lay the foundation stone (via remote control) for a slew of projects including a sports stadium at the ground, a bridge over the Barak connecting Itkhola in Silchar with Dudhpatil in Borkhola, new auditorium at District Library and a cultural and research centre at Assam University. The foundation stone for the much-awaited mini secretariat in Barak Valley will also be laid during the event.

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, excise and fisheries minister Parimal Suklabaidya, former minister Kabindra Purkayastha and Silchar MLA and former deputy speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dilip Kumar Paul among others are expected to be present.

Sonowal will reach Kumbhirgram airport around 2:50pm and return to Guwahati.
