Second Key Arrest In Jiribam Massacre: NIA Nabs Lalrosang Hmar From Aizawl

In a back-to-back breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday (July 31) arrested Lalrosang Hmar alias Rosang from Aizawl, Mizoram, in connection with the brutal Jiribam massacre of six Meiteis, including women and children. Lalrosang, a resident of Village Moinathol under Dilkhush GP in Cachar’s Lakhipur subdivision, is the second accused held within 24 hours, following the arrest of Thanglienlal Hmar from Fulertal ferry ghat in Lakhipur on Wednesday.

According to NIA sources, Lalrosang was an active conspirator in the November 11, 2024, abduction and killing in Borebekra, Jiribam, where six members of a Meitei family, including an infant, were murdered and their mutilated bodies dumped in the Barak River.

The victims-Yurembam Rani Devi (60), Telam Thobi Devi (31), Telam Thajamanbi Devi (8), Laishram Chingkheinganba Singh (2.5), and Laishram Langamba Singh (8 months) were allegedly abducted from a relief camp near Borobekra Police Station at Jakuradhor on the night of November 7.

NIA has recovered a mobile phone and SIM card from the possession of Lalrosang for forensic analysis under case RC-15/2024/NIA/IMP.

The twin arrests come just days after the Manipur High Court granted the agency a final extension to file the chargesheet in the case.
