Security Breach at NIT Silchar: Male Student Enters Girls’ Hostel Naked

Security system at the Girls of Hostel of NIT Silchar failed on Friday night when a male student of the MBA Department of the institute entered a girl’s hostel that too in an inappropriate state. In this disturbing incident, the student allegedly began threatening students, and roamed around the hostel corridor and common area , fully naked, triggering chaos inside the campus.

According to sources, the incident created chaos among hostel residents as students raised alarm over the intrusion. Security personnel of the institute intervened and escorted the student out of the hostel premises.

The incident has raised serious concerns regarding security arrangements at the premier institute.

When contacted, NIT Silchar Director Prof. Dilip Kumar Baidya confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation. “We are working on it and I cannot comment on it now. We have recently changed the security system and a lot of change is happening and we are working on it. The student is having a problem,” Baidya told Barak Bulletin.

When asked to elaborate on the nature of the problem, Baidya said, “He looks like intoxicated or having psychotic problem. That I don’t want to comment on. How our security missed it, that is our concern.”

On the immediate action taken, the Director stated, “We have called his parents and we are sending him home.”

The administration has indicated that internal inquiries are underway to determine how the breach occurred.
