Selling cigarettes, gutka illegally at a higher price; Karimganj Police seals Sanjay Saha’s godown
Karimganj Police raids renowned industrialist Sanjay Saha’s home, warehouse. The deputy commissioner of Karimganj had ordered the administration to probe allegations against illegal selling of cigarettes and other tobacco items at an inflated price.
Yesterday, a team of Police officials under the leadership of Additional SP conducted a raid in the presence of Circle officer. As per the available information, Police officials managed to seize a truck loaded with cigarettes and other consumable tobacco items. The officials nabbed the driver and others in the truck and after interrogation launched a raid at Sanjay Saha’s residence but could not find him there. Following which the Police along with BSF officials rushed to Saha’s warehouse in Madanmohan Road.
Shutters were down and the warehouse was locked. Since Saha could not be located there were no keys either. In presence of the Circle officer, Assam Police officials called for a technician and got the shutter cut. After breaking open the shutters, the police officials conducted a raid at the warehouse and seized many documents, cigarettes marketed by several companies and other edible tobacco items.
The police officials informed that there were allegations that cigarettes and other tobacco items are being sold illegally at a higher price in Karimganj and which is what they are investigating. If sources are to be believed then, Saha was orchestrating the black marketing of cigarettes and other consumable tobacco items. He was selling cigarettes worth Rs 6 at 15 and one that has an MRP of Rs 10 at Rs 20.
