Sept 10 COVID Update: 4 dead in SMCH; 71 positive in Cachar, 32 in Hailakandi, Karimganj 41

Four patients died at the COVID wards of Silchar Medical College and Hospital yesterday. Out of them, two are from Hailakandi viz Prabir Kumar Roy (60) and Krishna Mohan Das (62), one is from Cachar viz Rina Pathak (55) and one is from Dharmanagar viz Gopal Chandra Ghosh (65). It may be mentioned here that Rina Pathak, originally a resident of Barpeta, is the mother of Dhrubajyoti Pathak, Circle Officer , Silchar.

Vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that 28 patients are still in critical condition. 16 are in ICU and the rest of the critical patients are being treated in the ward as there is not enough bed in COVID ICU.

Dr. Gupta added that one patient has been placed under a ventilator while 47 are on oxygen support. At this moment, there are 202 active cases in the COVID wards of SMCH. “23 patients took admission to SMCH’s COVID wards in the last 24 hours while 17 were discharged,” added Dr. Gupta.

Cachar health department informed that 71 individuals tested positive on Thursday in the district. 63 of them tested positive on the Rapid Antigen Test Kit. Yesterday, the administration did not reveal the total number of tests done in the district in its media briefing.

In Karimganj district, the number of COVID positive patients of September 10, stood at 41. 751 samples were tested using RAT kit in the district. The officials informed that 65 patients were discharged from various COVID Care Centres on Thursday.

32 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Hailakandi on Thursday, taking the district’s total tally to 2,695. Health authorities in the district disclosed that of the 32 positive cases, 22 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while 10 under RT-PCR. 786 swab samples have been taken on Thursday.
