Silchar Accident: Debangana Saha, Harsh Jalan Airlifted; Sajal Acharjee’s son out of danger

Following the tragic collision involving a Maruti Suzuki Ritz near Sadarghat bridge in Silchar’s Rongpur area, significant developments have occurred regarding the injured individuals. Debangana Saha and Harsh Jalan, both critically injured in the accident, have been airlifted for advanced medical care.

The morning saw Harsh Jalan being airlifted from Kumbhirgram Airport in Silchar to Delhi, seeking further treatment after being under care at JJIMS, Silchar. Later in the day, around 8:30 PM, Debangana Saha, also a passenger in the ill-fated vehicle, was airlifted to Delhi as well. It is worth mentioning here that Debangana Saha is the niece of singer Debojit Saha who himself has been following up with the doctor in Silchar since the accident.

Airport operations extended into the night following permissions granted by the Indian Air Force, facilitating the night takeoff of the air ambulance carrying Saha. Cachar Police played a vital role in ensuring a smooth transfer of patients from the private nursing home in Meherpur to Kumbhirgram Airport, forming a green corridor for swift transport.

Recent medical reports indicate a slight improvement in Debangana Saha’s condition, prompting her family’s decision to airlift her to Delhi despite some progress in her treatment in Silchar. This decision was made at their own risk, prioritising advanced medical intervention.

Meanwhile, updates on other individuals involved in the accident have shown signs of recovery. Saptarshi Acharjee, son of Congress leader Sajal Acharjee, has been transferred to the ward at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, deemed out of immediate danger. Additionally, Pratham Khandelwal, the driver of the vehicle, has recovered and is presently with family, not requiring further hospitalization.

This recent development brings hope for the recovery of those involved in the accident, marking a crucial step in their ongoing medical journey.

The accident, which occurred due to reckless driving, initially left four individuals injured, prompting investigations into the circumstances. Eyewitnesses reported the Maruti Suzuki Ritz traveling on the wrong side of the road before crashing into a divider and overturning.
