Silchar Airport celebrates ‘World Environment Day’; plants 200 saplings
To celebrate the occasion of World Environment Day, AAI, Silchar Airport organised a Tree Plantation drive on 05th June 2020 at AAI Colony in Kumbirgram.
A total of 200 tree saplings were procured from Forest Department, Govt. of Assam were planted during the plantation drive. Saplings of trees including Mango, Sonaru, Radha Chura, Debdaru, etc. were planted at the AAI colony, a media statement mentioned.
To protect & ensure proper care of all the planted saplings, necessary eco-friendly fencing has also built with bamboo for its aesthetic value. Airport Director & other senior officers & staff of AAI, Silchar Airport participated in the event.
Silchar Airport Director, PK Gorai actively led the plantation campaign and celebrated the day along with other airport officials. He said that World Environment Day is a reminder that a healthy ecosystem can only be maintained if we learn to take it earnestly. “This day reminds us to take care of our ecosystem & to do course correction if we ever wander. We must ensure to keep our Earth clean and green” director said.
AAI in North East Region has targeted to plant more than one lakh sapling in and around the airport establishments starting March 2020. The green initiative was launched by Arvind Singh, IAS- Chairman AAI under Sanjeev Jindal, Regional Executive Director, AAI.
“Saplings of trees are being planted by chief guests on various special occasions and celebrations at AAI airports and we present them a sapling as a gift after each function to support the cause of a green and healthy environment,” said the press note issued by AAI Silchar.
