Silchar Dwarbond road: A nightmare for commuters

The dilapidated Silchar Dwarbond road is drawing strong resentment from the commuters as the big potholes developed is scaring the people. The road hosts two central universities, a medical college and numerous private hospitals but authorities still don’t find it important to repair.

The road was repaired around two years back but has now come back to its shambled state. Either it has developed big potholes or the entire road has been dug up in some places. The huge amount of dust also causes severe inconvenience to the commuters. “After a spell of rain, these potholes become mini ponds and unfit for driving,” said an auto driver, who was passing by.

Echoing similar views, another passer-by said, “In the rainy season, it becomes difficult to estimate the depth of potholes and drive two-wheelers, as the potholes get filled with water”.

As the damage of the road remains unattended, they are becoming bigger with the passing of days. According to an ‘Assam Tribune’ report, an estimate worth rupees 89 lakh was sent by PWD for this Silchar Dwarbond 32 KM road and tendering was also done but the work is yet to obtain administrative approval.

Hope the administration will soon notice the condition of the road and take appropriate steps to repair it.
