Silchar floods through the lenses of Partha Seal: A journey to humankind
This unprecedented deluge has tested human beings to the core. Upbringings were put to a test and the ones brought up sophisticatedly saw their parents sleep hungry and thirsty. But the test also brought the best out of humankind.
Throughout the deluge, Partha Seal a veteran photojournalist who is currently associated with daily broadsheet, Bartalipi, risked his life to capture moments that brings fore the act of togetherness that kept Silchar afloat in its worst.
A pack of biscuits was never as priceless. People swam miles to get hold of one.
The daily wages stopped as there were nowhere to carry the bricks. No walls were made in what turned into one large ocean.
The highways had no vehicular traffic in fact, there were too many boats navigating through.
There was no giving up. In the current, human beings were finding it difficult to stand still and here is a man holding it strong.
Many hands reach out to grab the mere necessity — water.
A baby sleeps peacefully holding a milk carton, knowing they won’t wake up to a hungry day.
A baby is ferried around in the flood water in a tub by her family.
A dog peeks out of the wall of his house to a flooded lane.
