Silchar Medical College: Mongola Das dies in the COVID ward; 2nd death in Barak Valley

Hailakandi resident, Mongola Rani Das succumbed after testing COVID positive on June 6, 2020. She was admitted to the COVID ward of Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Confirming the development, Dr. Babul Bezbaruah said, “She was suffering from cancer and was in the terminal stage of malignancy.”

Her 30-year-old son, Jhintu Das has also tested positive and is now being treated in the isolation ward.

Both mother and son had gone to Delhi for treatment and they were placed under home quarantine by the authority. After they tested positive, they were rushed to SMCH.

Bezbaruah informed that the SMCH will hand over the mortal remains of Das to the Hailakandi district administration.

“She will be cremated following the standard operating procedure in place,” informed, Megha Nidhi Dahal, DC Hailakandi.

This is the second patient from Hailakandi to die after testing COVID positive.
