Silchar Medical College to get 25 additional MBBS seats taking the total to 125

What comes as good news for the medical aspirants of the state, the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, accepting the proposal of Medical Council of India(MCI), has sanctioned additional 174 MBBS seat under 10% Economical Weaker Section(EWS) quota for 6 Medical colleges in Assam. This will take the total available MBBS seats in Assam to 900.

According to an MCI release, out of these 174 additional seats-

Silchar Medical College will get 25 seats (Total- 125)

Assam Medical College will get 30 seats (Total- 200)

FAAMC, Barpeta will get 25 seats (Total- 125)

Guwahati Medical College will get 44 seats (Total- 200)

Jorhat Medical College will get 25 seats (Total- 125)

Tezpur Medical College will get 25 seats (Total- 125).

Expressing his happiness, who was also first to announce it, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, yesterday took to his twitter to write- “Happy to share~Medical Council of India has sanctioned 174 additional MBBS seats under Economically Weaker Section quota for 6 medical colleges of Assam, taking total available seats to 900. Will address the aspirations of many who wish to pursue medicine.”

The announcement brings relief to economically weaker students who could not pursue higher education due to lack of finance and give up their studies. The students claiming admission under the EWS category may have to submit the Income and Asset certificate issued by the competent authority of the State government. For this students are advised to be in regular touch with the Directorate of Medical Education via their website.
