Silchar: Mother lodges FIR against Moulvi for allegedly molesting 6-year-old daughter

A resident of Silchar has lodged an FIR against a Moulvi for allegedly molesting her six-year-old daughter. Moulvi is an Islamic religious title given to Muslim religious scholars. The complainant who is a mother said she went against the will of a few family members and filed an FIR as she believes such incidents must be reported to Police for proper investigation.

“There was a lot of pressure on me from my family members and neighbors. They were against my decision of lodging a Police complaint. But there were a few in my family who supported me,” she informed.

Sharing details about the incident, she said that she had asked a Moulvi to offer religious lessons to her daughter. “That Moulvi visits my brother’s house which is located in the same building on the upper floor. I got her to join her cousins and study together in their house. Within moments my daughter came rushing home to me and started crying. When I asked what happened she replied saying that she does not want to study with the Moulvi,” informed the mother.

She added, “When I asked her for details repeatedly, she told me that the Moulvi touched her and also showed me where all he had touched her. I saw my daughter in a traumatic condition. Keeping her with her grandparents, I rushed to confront the Moulvi but he was absconding.”

The locals got to know about the incident and  it was decided among themselves that the incident must be kept as a secret and within the vicinity. It was also decided that the punishment will be decided by clerics. “See, according to Islamic laws, for the crime he has committed he must be tied and stones must be pelted at him till he dies. But now all this is not possible so it was decided that he should touch the feet of the six-year-old and apologise. I was not satisfied with that decision and that is why I decided to report the incident,” said the Mother.

She concluded, “This Moulvi is a teacher and he teaches a lot of girls, most of them are minors. It is important that we report such incidents to police as it is possible that he must be molesting other kids too.”
