Silchar Municipal Corporation Issues Warning Against Construction Waste Blocking Footpath
The Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has issued a public notice warning households, commercial establishments and contractors against illegal dumping or storage of construction and demolition (C&D) waste within the municipal area. A helpline number has also been issued for proper collection.
The notice, issued on July 25 under the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016, strictly prohibits dumping of materials like sand, concrete, and bricks on public roads, footpaths, drains or open spaces. Violators will face immediate seizure of materials, penalties, and possible legal action under the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, 2022 (Section 254).
The SMC has urged stakeholders to use authorised and environmentally safe methods for disposing of C&D waste, coordinating with the Solid Waste Management department.
“This notice is issued in the interest of public safety, environmental cleanliness, and civic order,” stated the corporation.
For information on the collection and disposal of such waste, citizens can contact Rajiv Chanda, City Project Officer, SBM (U), Silchar Municipal Corporation, at 6002568070.
