Silchar Railway Station is now Wi-Fi enabled
Great news for train travelers of Barak Valley, from now onward passengers will be able to access free Wi-Fi in all the platforms of Silchar Railway Station. “Whenever the train is in the platform the Wi-Fi facility will work and the passengers can avail it,” informed station master of Silchar Railway station, Biplob Kumar Das.
With this, Silchar becomes the first Wi-Fi enabled station in Barak Valley. According to Indiarailinfo so far 329 railway stations in India offers free Wi-Fi to passengers. In Silchar-Guwahati route, so far Lumding and Guwahati were the only stations which provided free Wi-Fi facility.
The station master was not clear about the internet service provider, “There must be a tie-up with some company,” is all he could say. Last December, Google announced that its RailWire (Google super high-speed Wi-Fi service) is available in 200 Railway stations in India. Out of the 200, Guwahati, Lumding and Jorhat were the only stations in Assam to have facility. In the same note google had mentioned that it plans to extend the super speed Wi-Fi services to Barpeta Road, Kamakhya, New Bongaigaon, Rangiya Jn., Silchar, Tinsukia in Assam.
