Silchar records highest temperature in Assam, likely to continue this week: RMC Guwahati
A heatwave reeling over Gangetic West Bengal is having a spillover effect over parts of North East including Silchar. According to India Meteorological Department’s Regional Met Centre: Guwahati, Silchar currently record the highest temperature in Assam. The mercury is reaching as high as 33 degrees Celsius in Silchar. As per the latest forecast, the temperature for the next 7 days will be above 30 with chances of thundershowers on April 23 and 24.
As of 11:30 AM observation on April 18 by Regional Met Centre: Guwahati, Silchar’s current temperature was 32.4 degrees, the highest in Assam. AccuWeather states the actual temperature feels like 37 degrees Celsius in Silchar. The weather report reads, “Partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers”.
After Silchar, Goalpara station reported the second-highest temperature of 31.3 degrees Celsius. As per the weather forecast, the maximum temperature will rise another degree, up to 34 degrees tomorrow, with a gradual dip to a maximum temperature of 32 degrees on April 24.
The heatwave over Gangeti Bengal and Odisha should continue until April 22. In such cases of increased heat and adverse weather conditions, you are advised to stay indoors if possible and avoid heat exposure. As a general rule of thumb, wear lightweight, light colour, loose, cotton clothes. Also, cover your head, use a cloth, hat or umbrella while outside and hydrate as much as possible, even if not thirsty.
