Silchar Shocker: Miscreants Assault Two Over Illegal Bangladeshi Claims

In a shocking incident that occurred in the Tarapur Shibbari area of Silchar, two men were brutally assaulted by a group of miscreants who accused them of being illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. The victims, Aftab Uddin from Katigorah Shib Narayanpur in Cachar and Rahul Sheikh from North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, were severely injured in the attack.

According to reports, the two men were in the area on personal business when they were suddenly confronted by the assailants. The mob accused Aftab and Rahul of being Bangladeshis and began attacking them in broad daylight. The situation escalated quickly, drawing the attention of local residents who intervened and handed the injured men over to the police.

The victims have sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Aftab Uddin, who serves as an Imam at a mosque in Shib Narayanpur, later addressed the media, clarifying the events leading up to the attack. He stated that he had been contacted by Rahul Sheikh requesting help in converting foreign currency into Indian rupees. Aftab refused, advising him to follow legal channels instead. Despite his refusal, Sheikh persisted.

Rahul Sheikh, a resident of Kolkata who works as a construction labourer in Silchar, had approached Aftab for assistance in the currency conversion. Aftab finally agreed to meet with him during his visit to Silchar on 9 August for an unrelated work. However, the situation took a violent turn when the mob had attacked them both.

This incident has sparked outrage in the community, with many condemning the violence and calling for unity. The police investigation is ongoing, and authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading communal hatred.
