Silchar turns clean ahead of PM’s visit
Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing a meeting a few kilometers away from the city, people living and passing by the road to Silchar Medical College and Hospital can breathe easy, at least for the next few days.
A day before the visit of the Prime Minister, Silchar Municipality Board plunged into action with fresh enthusiasm in keeping the whole city clean and the heap of garbage at the entrance of the SMCH, which otherwise takes days to be cleaned was cleaned up with priority.
Sources in the Civic Board said that the visit of the Prime Minister is no less than a festival and hence a routine drive to keep the surroundings clean has gained a fresh momentum. Almost all the street corners of the second biggest urban sprawl in the State has been kept trash-free and appeals have been made to the people not to litter wastes at improper places.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is already in the city for the PM’s visit, had once expressed his displeasure on the filth strewed across the city and urged upon the local Civic Board and citizens as well to step up and work to keep the city clean.
