
Silchar’s Debarati Dey shines bright at state-level inter-district Chess tournament; Wins title, will play U-12 MPL in Karnataka
Silchar’s Debarati Dey has bagged the first position in the state-level inter-district Chess Championship. Debarati is a player in the under-12 category and has defeated Guwahati’s Afseena Afsa Jaman to win the title. A student of Don Bosco School, Silchar from class 6 is now all set to participate in the All-India MPL under-12 chess championship in Karnataka.
On April 1, Debarati has achieved this feat by participating in the state level chess championship organized by Assam Chess Association. The four-day championship was held at Guwahati’s Samford Futuristic School.
19 chess players from Cachar participated in that tournament from different categories. After a tough competition between players from different districts, Debarati has secured 5.5 points at the end of six rounds.
At the end of the final round, Afseena has lost to Debarati with 5 points and secured the second position. Silchar’s Banipara resident Debarati is the daughter of Sujata Dey and Basabjit Dey. Her FIDE rating is 1112.
