Slow loris rescued in Derby Garden Dholai, released into natural habitat
A slow loris was rescued from Derby Garden of Dholai in Cachar district, on Wednesday, which was released back to its natural habitat, a Cachar forest department official said.
The primate was first spotted by Tea Garden Manager Sukesh Singh, who informed it to Forest officials.
The Range Forest Officer Babul Hussain Mazumder along with his staffs immediately reached to spot and retrieved the slow loris.
Talking to the Barak Bulletin, Cachar Divisional Forest Officer, Sunneydeo Choudhury, said that the species have been released back to jungle which will be its safe location.
Slow lorises are a group of several species of stepsirrhine primates that make up the genus Nycticebus. According to ecologists, two greatest threats to the slow lorises are deforestation and the wildlife trade. Slow lorises are asier to hunt because of their eyeshine.
