SMB Embraces Digital Transformation: Pay Your Taxes from the Comfort of Your Home!

Silchar Municipality is making strides in modernizing transactions by launching Paytm services, a first of its kind in the state. This move allows citizens to make hassle-free payments for municipality taxes through digital platforms using QR codes.

At an event held in the conference hall of Silchar Municipality, key figures including Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Udharband MLA Mihir Kanti Som, and others officially inaugurated the Paytm service. The citizens of Silchar can now deposit house tax, betterment fees, trade license fees, and other municipal taxes online through the Unified Payments Interface commonly known as UPI system.

The agreement between Silchar Municipality and Paytm paves the way for convenient payment methods. Initially, payments can be made by scanning QR codes or using an ATM card at the municipal counter. Paytm has provided Electronic Data Capture (EDC) machines to kickstart this system, with an app development in progress. Once the app is ready, citizens will be able to pay taxes from the comfort of their homes.

MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy emphasized India’s remarkable transition to digital transactions, fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Silchar Municipality takes the lead as the first in the state to adopt digital payments for government fees and dues. Dr. Roy inaugurated the Paytm-based system alongside MLAs Dipayan Chakraborty and Mihir Kanti Shome.

MLA Dipayan Chakraborty expressed pride in the nationwide embrace of cashless transactions following Prime Minister Modi’s initiatives. He also called for public cooperation in an operation aimed at clearing illegal encroachments in Silchar city.

In addition to speeches by MLAs Mihir Kanti Som and Nityabhushan Dey, the event featured explanations of its objectives and purpose by Executive Officer SMB Rajiv Roy. The municipality’s forward-thinking approach aligns with the growing trend of digital transactions across India. This groundbreaking initiative signifies a positive step towards a more modern and convenient system for Silchar residents.
