Smuggling alert: 19 trucks carrying subsidised urea seized from ISBT
The government of India subsidises urea, a very common fertilizer so that the farmers can afford them. This subsidised urea gets illegally smuggled out of the country while country’s farmers starve to death.
Over the years, Barak Valley has become an easy gateway for smugglers to drive truckloads of urea to Myanmar.
Reacting to a secret tipoff, a team Cachar Police led by DIG, Prasanta Kumar Dutta managed to seize 19 trucks from ISBT, Silchar. The trucks were loaded with urea and were allegedly about to leave for Myanmar.
Dutta, while speaking to Barak Bulletin correspondent said, “We have a clear instruction from the government of Assam to put an end to this smuggling story. All the departments have been told to stay in high alert and ensure we block any such attempts. We have seized 19 truck, none of them had any documents, we suspect they were about to leave for Myanmar with the urea. We will verify each and every detail and investigate the matter.”
