Special DGP GP Singh visits Silchar; “The main issue brought to my notice is traffic congestion,” says Singh

On the part of a routine annual inspection, Special DGP of Assam Police Gyanendra Pratap Singh visited Silchar on Tuesday. His annual visit primarily included the inspection of Silchar Sadar Police Station, where he visited last year as well in the month of March. His inspection has included various problems related to the district, counting the issues of illegal smuggling of Burmese areca, coal and also the road congestion of Silchar Town area. The officer has expressed his satisfaction regarding the condition of Silchar Sadar Police Station.

After his inspection, addressing the press DGP GP Singh said, “Everything is almost alright about the Sadar Thana, comparing my last visit in March, now it looks much better. The Thana building, man power, compound, everything is better than before. We’ve been trying to shift into the new building so that my force gets more space. I’ve also addressed the other problems they were facing like the employees accommodation, we are working on it.”

He further said, “The main issue that has come to my notice is the. Last night we had a detailed brainstorming on this issue with the MP- Cachar, MLA- Silchar and DC of Cachar. We are confident that, by the next two months the problem will be optimized.”

The senior IPS Officer on the issue of Burmese Areca (Supari) said, “I’ve informed the government about the locally grown areca and asked for a SOP to be issued for the production and transport of locally grown areca in Assam and North East. Assam Police have successfully cracked the circuit of illegal import and Burmese areaca and also arrested the mafias involved in those illegal activities. The same goes for Coal as well. The State Government will soon issue a SOP to regulate the trucks transporting Coal and Areca and solve the problem of illegal export and import.”

The senior Assam Police officer has warned the mafias saying “anyone dealing with such enterprise and they will be dealt without fail as per the law.”
