Sribhumi Youth’s Body Recovered Two Days After Drowning During Baruni in Katigorah

The body of Biswajit Acharjee, the youth who went missing while taking a ritual dip on Thursday during Baruni in the Barak River, was recovered on Saturday (March 29), two days after strong currents swept him away. His body was found floating near Lathiramara in Katigorah, a short distance from where he was last seen before being carried away by the current.

Acharjee, a resident of Shyama Prasad Road in Sribhumi, had entered the river with five friends on Thursday (March 27) during the Baruni Mela in Katigorah on the banks of the Barak River. However, he was caught in the river’s current and disappeared.

Despite the presence of SDRF and police teams at the site, they were unable to locate the body during their rescue operation.

After continuous search efforts, locals spotted his body on Saturday morning and informed the police. Law enforcement officials, along with a magistrate, recovered the body and initiated the necessary procedures. The dead body will be sent for postmortem.
